Project Description:

Considering the importance of reducing hydrogen loss and increasing process efficiency in the ammonia unit, hydrogen recovery from the synthesis loop purge stream is considered as one of the effective solutions for improving production performance and reducing operating costs. In this project, the possibility of deploying a hydrogen recovery unit (HRU) at Khorasan Petrochemical and integrating it with the existing conditions of the ammonia unit has been investigated. The basis of this project is the use of membrane separation technology as the selected option for recovering hydrogen from the purge stream; a technology that has appropriate technical and economic capabilities considering the flow pressure, feed composition and unit operation requirements. In this regard, the performance of the HRU unit, the required operating conditions, the necessary process changes in the existing unit and the effects of returning the recovered hydrogen to the ammonia production cycle have been investigated.
